PTO Digital Scans vs. Paper Below are the front pages of two patents. The images in the left column are digital scans directly from the USPTO digital image file. On the right are the paper versions, scanned for this site on an ordinary home scanner, from paper patents recovered from the trash. Note difference in details available and image quality. The PTO scans will soon be the best available images available for use by examiners and the public for study, and for printing.
